Welcome, Keith Porter
One of the privileges of hosting your own blog is having incredibly talented people actually tell you that they think you’re nuts enjoy your work and would like to contribute. I have had the good fortune to have some very talented people write for Undip, and I appreciate everything they’ve done.
Today, I get to welcome yet another one of those folks — Keith Porter. Keith and I go way back, and somehow he has managed not to learn to loathe me (yet). If Tanya Domi was my partner in crime in Nepal, Keith was my, uh, partner in crime in East Africa. And as the old saying goes, what happens in Eritrea, stays in Eritrea.
Keith is Director of Policy and Outreach for the Muscatine, Iowa-based Stanley Foundation. From 1988 to 2004, Keith co-produced and cohosted “Common Ground,” a nationally syndicated public radio program on world affairs. He also has served as a coproducer of and reporter for the award-winning public radio documentaries “The Russia Project”; “Children of War: Fighting, Dying, Surviving”; “Under Fire: The United Nations’ Battle for Relevance”; “Security Check: Confronting Today’s Global Threats”; “24/7: The Rise and Influence of Arab Media”; “Beyond Fear: America’s Role in an Uncertain World”; “Brazil Rising”; and “India Rising.”
Keith has reported from dozens of countries, and was a finalist for the 1995, 1996, and 1997 Livingston Award for Young Journalists. His work has received numerous honors and recognitions of excellence in broadcast journalism, including the National Press Club, Society of Professional Journalists, National Headliner Awards, New York Festivals, and the United Nations Correspondents Association. He is also one of the cofounders of the Muscatine Kosovo Project.
We’re delighted and honored to have Keith join the conversation. Please make him welcome, and for God’s sake, don’t scare him off too quickly.
As always, the views of Undip’s contributors are their own and not those of their employers.
