One Hour to Go

I’m not going to time stamp these — I’m pretty sure you know when stuff is happening.  I’ll make an exception for the swearing in.

Obama just entered the building.  Roberts and the other justices just arrived at the platform.

Anderson Cooper just made the interesting point that this is the only moment in American history other than a Senate impeachment trial where all three branches are involved.

Wolf Blitzer, in his typical idiotic fashion, just made the point that the viewing audience for this may be greater than the highest rated television in history:  the last episode of M*A*S*H.

Looks like Al Gore lost some weight.  Maybe he’s consuming less carbon.

Eric Holder arrives — the man who said waterboarding is torture.  I’m almost as excited about him as I am about Obama.  Almost.

CNN is going to show a satellite shot of the mall.  Cool.

I can’t emphasize more strongly how big an idiot Wolf Blitzer is.  I’m tempted to switch to Jon Stewart, but I think this is too serious an event.  I’m also tempted to switch to MSNBC, but there is no way I can listen to Chris Matthews either.  So to ABC and NBC it is.

Elvis Bill and Hillary Clinton have entered the building.  Which reminds me of the latest gossip I’ve heard regarding State:  Hillary’s team has focused on getting her personal staff through security clearances and badging.  Some may think that that is somehow a commentary on Hillary, but it makes a lot of sense:  she needs a policy team in place and those positions requiring Congressional confirmation cannot participate in meetings until they’re confirmed.

What did Rahm Emanuel just say and to whom did he say it?

Charlie Gibson makes the point that b/c of the 20th Amendment, Obama actually becomes President at noon, not when he takes the oath.  Stephanopolous makes the point that all we really know is that Bush stops being President at noon.

Nice ovation for Bill and Hillary.

There was a plan for the Senate to confirm the entire Cabinet today via voice vote after the Inauguration.  Word on CNN is that some moron Republican put a hold on Hillary, so it will have to be a roll call tomorrow.  Don’t know if that affects others.

ABC just showed a shot of the moving vans at the White House.  Schadenfreude alert!

Sasah, Malia and their grandmother are walking down the hallway.

Why in the world is Elaine Chao with Laura Bush?

Aretha Franklin!  Woo hoo!  Somewhere Martin Luther King, Jr. and Marian Anderson are smiling.  Along with Fannie Lou Hamer and all the others who make today possible.

Just saying that got me choked up.

More to come
