Frank Wolf: Human Rights Abroad, But Not at Home

I’ve always respected Frank Wolf (R-VA) — he’s been a courageous human rights advocate, once risking arrest to sneak into Tibet.  He has co-chaired the Congressional Human Rights Caucus with the late Tom Lantos, and by all accounts spoke out on a range of abuses.

He’s been in a safe seat for years, and now for the first time in quite a while faces a serious challenge from Judy Feder.  Recently, two Feder staffers tried to approach Wolf and ask a question.  Here’s the end result:

That Wolf would stand by and allow his friend/staffer/bodyguard to start hitting the cameraman with a cane is just outrageous.  In addition, reports indicate that those close to Wolf also were responsible for pinning the second staffer to the wall.

What in the world was Wolf thinking?

The thing is Congressman, a commitment to human rights includes respecting freedom of speech here at home.   I think the time has come for you to move on, sir.
