Live Blogging 9/11
Oh I’m sorry, it’s Rudy Giuliani!
9/11!
Sorry. Just can’t help it.
9:11 Oh wait- that’s not when his speech started.
10:01 Surprise! He supports McCain. Why is it that all three losers ex-candidates started their speeches with how they wish they were the one that Republicans chose?
10:03 Only people of America get to choose the President, not the liberal media or celebrities.
10:04 Portraying the Presidency as a job interview. Not a bad analogy, but it goes out to an audience made up mostly of people who have only participated in job interviews, not conducted them. An you can bet that a lot of those people don’t like to be reminded about their bosses.
10:06 Much like Thompson, Rudy is spending a big part of his speech talking about McCain’s biography.
10:07 Giuliana portraying Obama as an elitist — community organizer, Ivy League graduate. And now the crowd is chanting “zero, zero, zero.”
10:08 Giuliani is using Hillary’s talking points on Obama voting “present” in the Illinois State Legislature. Crowd is eating it up, but it didn’t work for her.
10:09 Now the celebrity meme.
10:10 But Obama’s rise is remarkable and could only happen in America — and crowd laughs.
10:10 Barack Obama has no experience. Crowd chants zero again.
10:11 Choice in this election comes down to one of substance over style. This is no time for on the job training.
10:11 Now using Joe Biden’s talking points against Obama. Hillary is right about 3 a.m. call. But problem is that McCain can’t wake up for 3 a.m. call. Heh.
10:12 Fear card, er safety card. Is that like the safety dance? You can scare if you want to. . .
10:13 If you don’t have the facts you have to change them. “Change” vs. More of the same a false choice. Change is not a destination just as hope is not a strategy. Hey Rudy didn’t you listen to Huck’s speech? Hope is a city in Arkansas.
10:14 Offshore oil drilling — crowd chanting drill baby drill, which was Michael Steele’s line. Clearly Giuliani isn’t aware of that.
10:15 There’s one purpose that overrides everything else — 9/11! 9/11! Er, John McCain will keep us on offense overseas and safe at home.
10:16 Rudy is playing the “Islamic terrorist” card in a way that clearly is meant to imply that Obama is a Muslim.
10:16 Here we go! 9/11! 9/11! 9/11!
10:17 On single biggest policy decision of this election, John McCain got it right, and Barack Obama got it wrong.
10:18 Shot of Cindy holding Trig Palin.
10:19 Here comes the flip-flop card: wiretapping, Jerusalem, etc.
10:19 “If I were Joe Biden, I’d want to get that VP thing in writing.” Funny line coming from a party that might dump its VP.
10:20 Crowd not so sure if they like the “We are all Georgians” line. Tepid response. I think Georgia delegation cheered. Heh.
10:21 Here comes the UN bashing — which contradicts the Republican Party platform
10:22 You know, I’m pretty sure that Giuliani’s entire discourse on Obama’s position on Gerogia is a lie.
10:23 Sarah Palin one of the most successful governors in America and “the most popular.” She’s had more executive experience than the entire Democratic ticket combined.
10:23 Awww, Rudy just bonded over Palin being a mayor.
10:24 Obama feels Palin’s home town is not cosmopolitan or flashy enough? When the hell did Obama say that? This whole speech is filled with falsehoods.
10:24 The “cling to religion” line was pretty good, even if I find it appalling.
10:25 Palin is wunnnerful. Mmmmm. Palin. So nice.
10:26 McCain and Palin are going to shake up Washington.
10:26 Another shot of Cindy with Trig. What in the world is that baby doing in that noisy hall at this time at night??
10:27 Rudy plays the gender card. I mean I can understand. He has worn a dress, after all.
10:28 Rudy is putting forward talking points that run counter to his record as mayor of NYC.
Perhaps the most appallingly disingenous truth-stretching speech of either convention.
