Don’t Make Me Angry. You Wouldn’t Like Me Angry.
As you may have heard, Robert Novak reported on Monday that McCain would pick a vice president this week “while Sen. Barack Obama is getting the headlines on his foreign trip.” Novak’s scoop caused a huge media scrum around the McCain campaign and, for a brief period of time, actually generated as much press and blog coverage as the Obama trip.
But now Novak is saying he was “used” by the McCain campaign just to generate some press. He told Fox that he got the tip from a “very senior McCain aide” and that the campaign urged him to put it out. He went on to say that he as since found out that it was a “dodge” and that “they were trying to get a little publicity to rain on Obama’s campaign. That’s pretty reprehensible if it’s true.”
How stupid are the McCain people? There’s a reason Jon Stewart calls Novak the “Prince of Darkness” (a term that Novak, despite his professed hatred of Stewart, has now co-opted as the title of his forthcoming autobiography). He remains both a formidable reporter and a popular figure among conservatives.
And now they’ve deliberately pissed him off. For a few cheap hours of coverage. Nice going, Einsteins.
Hulk angry. HULK SMASH!
